Camera Bodies

Sony A7r4a - My latest addition to the family. With a huge 61MP sensor, this camera allows me to capture incredibly detailed shots. This makes it much easier to produce extremely high quality prints at larger sizes. This truly is a camera made with landscape photography in mind. The huge dynamic range that comes from the Sony sensors is amazing.

Sony A7iii - I’ve used this model for a while now and onto my second one from this range. I found out the hard way that its not fully waterproof as the first one had an unfortunate event at a waterfall. I love this camera for being a ‘Jack of all trades’ body as Ive used it for not only landscapes but for portraits, sports, astrophotography, wildlife and live shows. It really is a true workhorse!

Sony A6300 - This was my first mirrorless camera body that I managed to pick up whilst it was on offer a while back. Nowadays, I mostly only use the full frame bodies, however, the smaller lens size and lightweight body can be a bonus when out for a casual walk or hike where photography may not be the number one priority. I also use it more and more now for video as its lightweight to carry yet still works very well with many accessories.

Lenses

Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS - My workhorse. This lens is on the camera for my landscape shoots most of the time. Having the ability to shoot wide but also pick out the smaller details with one lens is a bonus. I always find it to be very sharp whilst not being too heavy to carry around to different locations.

Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS - I use this lens across mixed genres. It’s brilliant for landscape images allowing me to pick out detailed areas. As it’s pretty heavy, I normally only take it to locations that I have planned out where it will be required. This is by no means a cheap lens but as its so versatile, It’s worth that price tag. The auto focus is fast and accurate and I’ve had no problems using it with quick moving wildlife or during live stage performances.

Sony FE 12-24mm F4 G - The widest lens that I own and a bit of a powerhouse. There were times when using the 24-105mm that 24mm was just not wide enough so I decided to pick this one up. The only downside of the lens is that most filter systems aren’t compatible due to the lens hood being a permanent feature. There are however workarounds such as rear filters and some newly designed filter holders that are becoming available for them. On a plus side though, this thing is incredibly sharp out of camera. For landscape shots, the ability to emphasise a foreground whilst still having a subject in frame is game changing.

Sony FE 85mm F1.8 - My only full frame prime that I currently have. For the price this one is amazing. It really is a brilliant buy. I rarely use this for landscapes but for portrait or low light work it really is a fabulous lens. The 85mm focal length has also become quite popular over the years with many now preferring it to the standard 50mm.

Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS - I use this mostly for wildlife shots and absolutely love it. The focusing speed for tracking birds is amazing. The focal range I feel is perfect to allow most wildlife shots to be obtained easily without any disturbance. What more can you say here?

Sony E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS - I really do like this lens for the crop sensor system not only for how it performs but also the weight. A bit like the 24-105mm, it is incredibly versatile and is a great walk about lens. Personally this is one of the best APS-C lenses I have used for the system.

Sony E 35mm F1.8 OSS - A 35mm lens. Pretty straight forward this one but the 1.8 aperture certainly gives you that extra bit of creativity and low light perfomance.

Sony E 50mm F1.8 OSS - The ever popular 50mm lens. Just like the 35mm, it pretty much does what it says on the tin.

Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS - My crop sensor zoom option. It’s not the fastest lens by any means but a solid lightweight option for the system.

Sony E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS - This one was provided as the kit lens with the A6300. I don’t think I have ever used this when out on location although it does provide a good wide option for vlogging using the camera. Incredibly light when on the camera body and wide enough to provide a natural view when filming.

Filters

Kase K150P Filter Holder System - This system allows me to use the filters and polariser with my most used lenses, including the ultra wide. I can then attach it to the other lenses through the use of step up rings.

Kase 150x170mm 0.9 ND Grad - Not one that I use a lot, but can be good for some tricky exposure situations. This effectively helps to balance exposure between bright and dark areas of an image.

Kase 150x150mmND64 - This one is probably my most used ND filter. Great quality!

Kase 150x150mmND1000 - Another great quality Kase filter. This time a stronger 10 stop.

Bags

Gitzo Adventury 45L Backpack - My bag of choice for all my adventures really. Its big enough to carry all my gear and keep it very well protected and dry. There are no doubt features of this bag i’m yet to discover as every time I use it I discover a new part. Even when full to the brim with all my gear, it’s still incredibly comfortable to wear. The additional storage on the top also allows you to carry the essentials not always related to photography.

Vanguard VEO SELECT 49 - I mostly use this as an everyday bag. Being a good bit smaller than the Gitzo, i’m limited to which lenses I can fit in it. Don’t let that fool you though as it is still a very well designed bag which provides great protection and can be carried in multiple ways either as a ruck sack or a more briefcase option.

Tripods

Benro Mach3 TMA47AXL with G3 Low Profile Ballhead - The Mach3 tripods from Benro are literally rocks. I have the aluminium version here as I really did want that extra stability for all weathers and terrains. The height that the tripod extends to is incredible and the versatility of the leg angle is great for getting down low. The ball head is solid also and has held all of my lenses without fail. I love the grip which makes it so easy to swap lenses but also provides ease of use with the L brackets.

Vanguard VEO 2 265CB - This tripod is of course much lighter than the Benro. Lately Ive only really used this one for some wildlife shots due to how light and flexible it is.

Manfrotto PIXI EVO - Don’t we all have one of these little guys? As good as a small tripod gets I guess and also acts well as a grip when vlogging.

Editing

Lightroom & Photoshop - These days, this software is a household name. Lightroom provides great editing and cataloguing for all images and photoshop can be used when you decide to get a little more advanced.

Affinity Photo - Ive used this editing software for a few years now and really like it. Affinity provides great RAW support as you would expect and full control over how you would like to edit or enhance your images.

iMac 5K - What can I say here? Its a Mac! Now running with 40GB of RAM however as 61MP images from the A7r4a are huge.

MacBook Pro - I mostly use the MacBook for viewing and uploading images. It’s also great to use when on a trip to transfer images from the SD cards to the internal storage.

Seagate 10TB External HDD - Its a Storage drive. It stores stuff, a lot of stuff.

Aerial & Video

DJI Mavic Air - I love drones. Ive had this one for a while and although i’ve thought about upgrading it a few time, this one is just so reliable and does most of what I need. I would certainly like a higher mega pixel sensor on it yes, maybe one day, but the drone certainly provides a completely different perspective to get an image from. This drone is no longer sold new, however the latest model from this range can be found on the link.

DJI Osmo Pocket - This is great for not only vlogging, but also ties in well with any drone footage. It’s brilliant to have such a small factor camera with gimbal in your pocket that can be used for almost any purpose.

DJI Osmo Action - This is a more rugged action cam setup for more challenging situations, Especially out in the rain.

Rode Wireless GO mic - This is my mic setup that I use across all the cameras. It provides a freedom of movement away from the camera without having to worry about the distance from a cable.

Other

SanDisk SD Cards - I use Sandisk memory cards for all the cameras. Fast, strong and reliable.

Sandisk Micro SD cards - The memory cards that I use for the drone. These cards are great for capturing 4K footage.

SD Card Holder - A great SD card case for any journey really that I have used for a long time and never had any issues with. It’s solid enough to protect against any knocks and is also water resistant. Definitely worth it to protect all your memory cards from the elements.

Smallrig L Brackets
- I cannot recommend these enough for any camera or rig. They fit everything perfectly and the expansion options are second to none. I use them on all my cameras. Just choose the one for your camera and you’re good to go.

Hoya ND 6 & 10 Stop - Smaller screw on filters that can be used to keep the weight down on a longer hike.

Hoya Polariser - A screw in polariser that can be used with the other Hoya filters.

Sony RMT-DSLR2 Wireless Remote Commander - I use this effectively as a shutter release cable for any long exposures. Its also great for avoiding any camera shake when pressing the shutter button.

Ecoflow River Pro - This is my 720wh generator that I use for trips that require charging of the cameras and other equipment. It can be powered from the car or by using the solar panels to keep every going for a the time away.

Anker 20,000mAh Power Bank - I use this mostly as my main charger to keep in the car or bag to provide charge when required. It’s light enough to use on walks providing charge to mostly any device whilst on the go.

Portable Hand Warmer & Power Bank - Providing not only a great level of heat to warm the hands but also contains a 10000mAh power bank built in. This can be great for charging the camera batteries or keeping the phone going on a long hike. I love keeping it on to warm my pocket on the cold days and its really amazing how powerful it is.

PETZL Actik Headlamp - This thing is bright and is a must for any dark walks or hikes. It also features a red beam which is handy when out shooting as it won’t affect your eyes as much in the dark. Very lightweight and easily stored. It even features an inbuilt whistle should you ever need to attract attention.

PhotoPills - This app will effectively do all the planning work for you without having to get off the couch. Its ideal for the location that is too far to scout out again and again. All you have to do its turn up with your camera.

Clear Outside - I use this for weather planning. Incredibly detailed to help you plan for any shot.

Alpenglow - This app is used to predict sunsets. Its pretty accurate and is always being updated.

Godox Xpro-S TTL Wireless Flash Trigger - Used to trigger the flash lighting system.

Godox V860II-S Speedlite - This can be used as an on camera flash or external speed light.

Godox AD200 Pro - An incredibly versatile and powerful speed light.
